Pampeana No. 1 – Premio Ginastera / Pampeana No. 1 – Ginastera Prize

Performed by several prestigious artists on many stages around the world, La Pampeana No.1 is one of the masterpieces by the Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera.
With a great power for synthesis, the author expresses his nationalistic feeling in it, through a rhapsodic and relatively short composition. Its melodic and harmonic turns, in the violin as well as the piano, require and show a deep knowledge of the violin and its great technical demands.

Pampeana No.

It is because of this, and also with the idea of establishing a special Prize to commemorate Ginastera’s genius, that the performance of this work will be rewarded once again in the Second International Violin Competition Buenos Aires 2012.
Rafael Gintoli, juror and Artistic Director of the Competition states: “In the 2010 edition, the jurors that took part in our competition agreed on how extremely difficult the piece was, not only technically, but also stylistically; due to its character, the jury agreed it was yet another way to define the quality of the participants in the event. We are proud that Argentina is represented in an International Competition by a piece of such musical height.”
To Xavier Inchausti, Argentine violinist winner of the Ginastera Prize in 2010, the experience of being granted such recognition by an international jury had a profound meaning: “I was overwhelmed when I was handed the prize by Georgina Ginastera,” he recalls. “I felt very proud and relieved. With no previous intention, I paid a humble homage to who may be the greatest of our composers.”
