The Second International Violin Competition Buenos Aires 2012 is launched

Between 14th and 27th July next year, the Second International Violin Competition Buenos Aires 2012 will be held. Organized by the Amijai Community and presented by the YPF Foundation, this international contest – whose first edition took place in 2010 – will summon once again young violinists from all over the world, and it will be honoured by a Jury made up of artists of different nationalities and international recognition, presided by Maestro Shlomo Mintz. The Laureates’ Gala will take place in the Colón Theatre in the city of Buenos Aires.

As from today and until 31st March 2012, all the candidates will be able to enroll through our website www.violinbuenosaires.com. One month later the preselected candidates will be announced and during July next year the different rounds will take place in this city: first, second and final rounds. The prizes for the first three places will be twenty thousand, twelve thousand and seven thousand USD, and there will also be other prizing instances, which will include diplomas, mentions and concerts. There will also be special awards for the best performer of pieces by Alberto Ginastera and of Argentine Tango, and the Audience’s Award in memoriam of Alberto Lysy.

The First International Violin Competition Buenos Aires 2010, held in July last year, organized by the Amijai Community and presented by the YPF Foundation, with the sponsor of Mecenazgo Buenos Aires, assembled 23 young violinists from all over the world. Jinjoo Cho, from the Republic of Korea, was the winner, and Nigel Armstrong, from the USA, got the Second Prize. This year they both went on a Winners’ Tour around Argentina.

Buenos Aires is thus another one of the very important cities in America, Europe and Asia to hold such prestigious competitions which support and promote new young musical talents.
